Infusing Excellence into Post-acute Rehabilitation
Presented by Rachel Tran, DPT
Summary: The severity of some accidents demands rehabilitation beyond what is typically afforded from acute rehabilitation. For these individuals, The Transitional Living Center at Casa Colina provides intense therapy in a structured environment that supports a transition home. In this presentation, an overview of the transitional center's physical, cognitive, and behavioral rehabilitation will be presented, highlighting how we infuse clinical excellence and new technologies to optimize recovery in our patients with brain and spinal cord injury.
Ethics in Research: The Role of Case Management
Presented by: Caroline Schnakers, PhD
Summary: Clinical care is more than ever based on evidence-based practice. More and more hospitals are, therefore, interested in being involved in research protocols. Doing research in a rehabilitation hospital involves a real multi-disciplinary team that includes casa management. In this talk, I will explain how case managers can be involved in research, the ethical principles to keep in mind when participating in a research study, and how these compare to the CCMC Code of Professional Conduct. I will take the example of one of our ongoing studies: "Biomarkers of thalamic LIFUP in Chronic Disorder of Consciousness.”
Managing Traumatic Brain Injury
Presented by: David Patterson, MD
Summary: The presentation will include an overview of the prevalence and types of TBI. The challenges in managing people with TBI will be discussed, including recognizing symptoms, interventions, and rehabilitation needs post-TBI.
